T2 TIA Inlet Compatibility Testing

The Gulfstream G500 flight test program recently received its first Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA issued the TIA for inlet compatibility, allowing Gulfstream to perform the testing for certification credit.

The aircraft completed the required testing at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. During the test, a large blower exposed the G500’s twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PW814GA engines to winds as high as 45 mph (72 km/h). The test team positioned the aircraft at various angles to demonstrate that the engines will function properly from idle to takeoff power during crosswind and tailwind conditions.

With inlet compatibility testing complete, T2 has returned to flight loads validation and aircraft systems testing.
