G500: 5 for 5 in Successful First Flights

The fifth and final Gulfstream G500 test aircraft has taken to the skies over Savannah, Georgia. The aircraft is the first production test aircraft to be outfitted with a full interior and serves as the test platform for the cabin.

During its first flight, the newest G500 reached a maximum altitude of 48,000 feet/14,630 meters and flew at Mach 0.84. The G500 is designed to fly at a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925—the same speed as the flagship Gulfstream G650ER—and will have a top cruise altitude of 51,000 feet/15,545 meters.

The G500 is scheduled to receive type certification in 2017.
